From Equipment Deliveries To Steel Installation

Some weeks are defined by one big accomplishment. Others tell a bigger story in how many things are going on at once. When I look out across the Benghazi steel complex today, it is that second picture which comes to mind.

Work is going ahead on several fronts at the same time. Foundation works are underway with piling now over 92% complete and concrete works still active across the site. At the same time more structural steel is going in, slowly changing the look of the project as new parts start to come together.

Recently, construction teams have completed wall casting in the Air Separation Unit and are working on beam and roof slabs. Installation continues in the ironmaking area and product warehouse where structural steel and piping are being installed steadily.

The site has also received several key equipment deliveries including specialised mechanical equipment, heavy structural components, storage tanks for oxygen and liquid nitrogen and transformers for the future electrical substation. While these deliveries may not get a lot of attention in themselves, they are critical to keep the project moving from one phase to the next.

What I like most is seeing so many different teams working side by side. Engineers, technicians, contractors and support staff all have different roles, but all work towards the same end goal. Massive industrial projects are never the work of a moment or a team, but rather consistent movement over time.

When I look at the site today I see not just buildings going up. I see hundreds working together for something that will serve Libya in the years to come. And that's why updates like these are worth sharing.
