A Project Like This Is Never Static
With a project of this size, one of the things is there’s always something going on. One team is finishing up concrete work, another is putting up steel, and elsewhere new equipment is coming in to get ready for the next phase. That is precisely what has been happening at the Benghazi steel complex lately.
One of the newest arrivals is the Top Gas Scrubber, an important piece of equipment to be incorporated into the reduction furnace of the plant. Once in place it will cool and clean the process gases before they are reused in production, improving the plant’s efficiency. It took a lot of planning to bring equipment of this size to site and its arrival is another step forward for the project.
But that’s not the end of the job. Construction teams continue to make progress on the future 220 kV substation, including work to prepare foundations for the electrical systems that will power the complex in the future. Oxygen tanks have also been delivered and work on the utility systems and other construction activities continues.
Elsewhere on the site, different aspects of the project continue to advance together. The Reduction Area, the Reformer Area and the Gas Compressor Building are now seeing structural steel constructed, while piling and concrete works are still taking place in the vicinity of the Cooling Tower. Work continues on the masonry of the services building with each team concentrating on a different area of the overall development.
Concrete works, backfilling and structural steel installation are all continuing to move forward with the latest progress figures showing steady movement across the project. Those updates are important because they show that progress isn’t just happening in one area of the site. The project is progressing steadily with different parts being developed simultaneously.
Today, looking across the Benghazi steel complex, each stage clearly supports the next. Whether it's a new equipment delivery, another foundation completed or steel going up on site, each step contributes to the bigger picture. The project is taking shape bit by bit and it is a pleasure to see that the progress is becoming more and more visible with every update.
