More Than A Storage Building
If you look around the site today, you can see that not all the important parts of the project are production buildings. Some of the structures going up now are support structures for everything that’s going on around them and will be important once the plant is up and running.
One such is the new Cold Direct Reduced Iron (CDRI) Storage Facility, which is now about 60 to 65 percent complete. Once completed, it will store direct reduced iron before being transferred through the next stages of production. It might not be the most visible part of the project but it’s an important part of keeping the plant operating efficiently.
The storage facility is designed to store some 140,000 tons of material, giving the plant more flexibility and helping to secure a reliable flow of production. Also work continues on the covered conveyor tunnel which will automatically transfer material between the storage area and the production units, making the process faster and more efficient.
Construction is ongoing in several key locations elsewhere on the wider site. Piling works near completion, concrete work and structural steel erection ongoing throughout the Reduction Area, the CDRI warehouses, the Pipe Rack Area and the future electrical substations. There are more than 40 pieces of heavy equipment working on the project with activity going on across the site every day.
It is interesting to see how the project is developing. Most of the work was in preparing the ground, not long ago. More structures are going up today, facilities are being put in place to support the facilities and the systems that will run the plant are gradually falling into place. That’s how projects like this are assembled, one piece at a time.
